HIBERNIAN have signed French striker Farid El Alagui on a two-year contract following his release by Brentord.

The 29-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Dundee United, becomes Alan Stubbs's second summer signing after David Gray's arrival from Burton Albion last week.

El Alagui scored three goals in 15 appearances for the Tannadice club last term but is better known for netting 27 goals in 43 outings for Falkirk in the Scottish Championship in 2011/12.

"I'm really happy to be at Hibs and I'm excited about the challenge ahead," he told the club's official website.

"As soon as I came here the move felt right and I felt good about playing for Hibs. I had a few other offers to consider before I chose Hibernian.

"I thought this was the most exciting challenge and it was very clear in my head that I wanted to be here. We will be doing everything we can to make sure we get back into the Scottish Premiership."

The deal for El Alagui - who netted nine goals in two years at Griffin Park in the English League One - comes just hours after Hibs allowed young striker Ross Caldwell to join St Mirren.

Stubbs, who revealed El Alagui had turned down Scottish top-flight clubs in order to move to Easter Road, spoke of his delight in capturing the Bordeaux-born forward.

"He will be a great addition to the club and his arrival has given everybody a lift," the newly-appointed boss added.

"We've had to fight off competition from Scottish Premiership clubs and also competed with clubs from down south in order to bring Farid here to the club.

"We've mentioned before that we want to add quality players to the squad and Farid's arrival is the type of signing we're aiming to introduce this summer."
