GOALKEEPER Scott Gallacher has signed for Hearts on a two-year deal after deciding to quit Rangers.

The 25-year-old left the Ibrox club earlier this week and has now elected to join their Scottish Championship rivals.

Gallacher made five appearances for the Light Blues last term when Cammy Bell was injured but also spent time on loan at League One side Airdrieonians.

He will compete with former Rangers team-mate Neil Alexander for the number one jersey at Tynecastle.

"We're glad to get Scott in. I fully expect him to push Neil Alexander all the way for the number one shirt as he's certainly got the ability to do so," head coach Robbie Neilson told the club's official website.

"We've said all along that we were going to try and bring another goalkeeper in but it was a case of waiting to make sure that we got what we were looking for.

"Scott has got experience; he's played at Forfar and Airdrie and obviously Rangers. We've now got three good goalkeepers."

Speaking about the move, Gallacher added: "I'm absolutely delighted to be here. Hearts is a big club and to be part of something special that's going on here, it's an honour.

"I've been to Tynecastle before with Rangers and it's a fantastic place. The fans are brilliant and make lots of noise, so I'm looking forward to playing in front of them."

Gallacher spent eight years on the books at Rangers after coming through the youth ranks but made only six senior outings.

He was loaned out to several clubs, including Forfar and Cowdenbeath, and has experienced football in all four tiers of Scottish football.

The former Scotland Under-21 international becomes Hearts's seventh signing of the close season - coming just a day after the arrival of midfielder Prince Buaben.

Fellow goalkeepers Jamie MacDonald and Mark Ridgers have left the Edinburgh outfit already this summer.
