LIVERPOOL have reportedly agreed an £8.5 million fee with Queens Park Rangers for striker Loic Remy.

The France international, who scored 14 goals in 26 Premier League appearances on loan at Newcastle last season, has received permission to speak to the Reds.

It is understood the 27-year-old, who is a long-term admirer of Arsenal and Tottenham, has a release clause in contract which allows him to speak to clubs in the Champions League if a reasonable fee has been met.

Remy would help to compensate for the loss of last season's top scorer Luis Suarez following his £75 million move to Barcelona.

He would become Liverpool's fifth summer signing after Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic as boss Brendan Rodgers continues his recruitment ahead of the return of Champions League football to Anfield.

The news comes after Liverpool agreed a £14 million fee with Sunderland for the sale of Italian forward Fabio Borini.

Remy scored six times in 14 games for QPR in the second half of the 2012-13 season after his January arrival from Marseille but could not prevent the Hoops being relegated to the Championship.

Although, it now appears increasingly unlikely that he will remain at Loftus Road next season despite their promotion back to the top-flight at the first time of asking.

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes tweeted: "This season is all about players who want to play for us. Some will move to bigger clubs most will stay some will come."

The former Lyon forward has scored five goals in 24 caps for his country since making his debut in 2009.
