SHEFFIELD United have signed former Motherwell striker Michael Higdon from NEC Nijmegen for an undisclosed fee.
The 30-year-old, who scored 14 goals in 32 league appearances for NEC last season as they were relegated from the Dutch Eredivisie, has signed a two-year deal with the South Yorkshire club.
Higdon was named the PFA Scotland Player of the Year in 2012-13 after scoring 27 goals for Motherwell, who finished second in the Scottish Premier League.
"He ticks a lot of boxes, including goalscoring record, experience, as well as being a big lad who can hold the ball up," Blades boss Nigel Clough told the club's website.
"He scores different types of goals, he uses his left, right and head and we think the crowd will take to Michael.
"If you look at the quality of crosses we've put in over the pre-season period, it should be of major benefit to Michael.
"He's 30-years-old, experienced and began at Crewe so is technically sound. Michael will be a major asset to us."
Higdon added: "Once a club like Sheffield United say they want you, it isn't a hard conclusion to come to.
"I have jumped at the chance to come here. This is an ambitious club, with an excellent squad and a management team that is highly respected."
Higdon came through Crewe's academy as a youngster and enjoyed successful spells with Alex, Falkirk and St Mirren before joining the Steelmen in the summer of 2011.
The Englishman scored 43 goals in 82 appearances in all competitions and was the leading SPL scorer in the 2012-13 campaign before leaving for Holland a year ago.
He will be reunited with former Motherwell forward Jamie Murphy at Bramall Lane, with the pair enjoying a productive partnership during their time north of the border.
Higdon becomes Nigel Clough's ninth signing of the summer as the Blades seek to mount a successful promotion push to the Championship this season.
He could make his debut in their opening League One match at home to Bristol City on Saturday.
