CARDIFF City have completed the signing of Tom Adeyemi from Birmingham for a fee believed to be around £1 million.

The 22-year-old has become the Bluebirds' sixth summer signing and has joined in time to make his debut in Friday's Championship opener against Blackburn.

The highly-rated midfielder, who has signed a three-year contract, is seen as a replacement for Jordan Mutch after his £6 million move to Queens Park Rangers.

"I've been keeping an eye on Tom's progress for a very long time," said Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer on the club's official website.

"A few years ago, my Manchester United reserve side played against Norwich's first team and Tom was their standout player. He scored a great goal that day and stood out as a fine talent, even at that young age.

"Tom has a physical presence, drive and energy - up and down the pitch. He can dictate games and is great at winning and anticipating second balls. We've been interested all summer and I'm thrilled we've got our man ahead of the season kick-off."

Birmingham boss Lee Clark said he was left 'gutted' by Adeyemi's decision to leave, adding: "We tried everything to keep him within our means.

"But he wanted to leave, so the club got the best deal we could - it's a very, very good deal for a player with only a year left on his contract."

Adeyemi, who joined the Midlands club from Norwich last summer, scored three goals in 40 appearances for the Blues last season as he claimed the Young Player of the Year award.

But he handed in a transfer request at St Andrew's last week to force the switch to south Wales.

He said: "I took no persuading from the manager to come here. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to work with somebody like him and to play for a club like Cardiff City.

"I'm very pleased that everything has been completed ahead of the season and now I can focus on fighting for a place in the side and helping us get the season off to a great start."

Solskjaer has also recruited striker Adam La Fondre from Reading, plus fellow forwards Federico Macheda and Javi Guerra, midfielders Guido Burgstaller and Kagisho Dikgacoi, plus goalkeeper Charlie Horton.
