HEARTS goalkeeper Neil Alexander is facing a spell on the sidelines after appearing to suffer a serious facial injury against Rangers.
The veteran stopper accidentally clashed with defender Alim Ozturk when claiming a Nicky Law free-kick in the second half of their 2-1 win at Ibrox.
Alexander required treatment for several minutes before being stretchered from the field as another former Gers keeper Scott Gallacher replaced him.
Manager Robbie Neilson, who confirmed the 36-year-old player coach was taken straight to hospital, said: "He has a problem with his cheekbone. The doctor thinks it could be broken so it could be four to six weeks minimum.
"But I was pleased for Scott. He came in a few weeks ago. He wants to play football and he has the opportunity now."
Gallacher, who joined on a two-year contract last month, is now in line to start the Edinburgh derby against Hibernian at Tynecastle on Sunday.
And the 25-year-old will be hoping to stake his claim to be the number one choice even when Alexander returns to full fitness.
It is believed third-choice custodian Jack Hamilton will be recalled from his loan spell at League One outfit Stenhousemuir to provide cover.
