MARK Clattenburg will be the man in the middle for Saturday's Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester City.

The 39-year-old, from County Durham, will oversee the heavyweight battle as last season's champions travel to the Emirates Stadium.

He will be assisted by Simon Beck (Bedfordshire) and Jake Collin (Merseyside), while the fourth official will be Jon Moss (West Yorkshire).

The sides have already met once this term with the Gunners easing to a 3-0 win in last month's Community Shield at Wembley.

Fifa official Clattenburg has officiated five games in all competitions so far this term, three of which came in the Premier League.

He has also handled the prestigious Uefa Super Cup between Real Madrid and Sevilla in Cardiff and brandished his first red card of the campaign to Romania's goalscorer Ciprian Marica in their 1-0 win over Greece in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier on Sunday.

The Newcastle-based whistler enjoyed a successful campaign last season, taking charge of 42 matches overall, including numerous high-profile games.

He brandished 145 yellow cards and six red cards while awarding 10 penalties in the process.

Clattenburg, along with close friend Michael Oliver, is one of the leading English officials following the retirement of Howard Webb.

The former electrician, who has refereed over 200 top-flight matches since his 2004 debut, is one of 17 Select Group referees in England and also is highly regarded on the European and international scene.

Arsenal have won one and drawn two of their three league games so far while City won their opening two matches before a home defeat against Stoke.

The 12:45 BST lunchtime kick-off will be televised live on BT Sport on 13 September.
